Biography
Gary has over 30 years of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) experience across oil and gas, manufacturing, industrial and other sectors. He possesses deep expertise in assessing, enhancing and occasionally revolutionizing the safety practices, policies, behaviors and cultures of companies, reducing injuries, injury-associated costs, and optimizing enterprise value. Before joining FSI as Principal Consultant – Health, Safety & Environment, Gary held senior HSE leadership roles in organizations ranging from publicly traded corporations to early-stage private start-ups.
Gary is an expert in creating, implementing, training, and developing behavioral-based safety cultures to control workplace injuries and unplanned events. He has extensive experience and knowledge in auditing and inspecting organizations to identify HSE gaps by collaborating closely with field and operations management teams to instill safe work habits and minimizing at-risk behavior. He has a proven track record of successfully implementing full HSE programs that have dramatically reduced worker’s compensation costs and increased retention of employees by empowering them to own safety, create a safe working environment for themselves and their colleagues, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Prior to his corporate HSE career, Gary served in the US Navy, was a Master Fire Fighter, Emergency Medical Technician, Hazardous Materials Specialist and Commander with the Houston Fire Department. Gary also served as a member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Urban Search and Rescue Team as a Hazardous Materials and Weapons of Mass Destruction Specialist. Notably, he was one of six national WMD experts summoned to New York City post-9/11 to consult and plan for future eventualities.
Gary has extensive experience working with federal regulatory bodies such as DOT, FMCSA, NRC, OSHA, EPA and others, as well as state and local regulatory agencies.
